Environmental Message of the Month

With such a connection between walking and the environment, we have decided to bring you an environmental message each month to keep you updated on all things wildlife and wondrous within our beautiful walking areas.

Did you know nesting birds are protected from disturbance? Once a bird starts building a nest it’s a criminal offence to interfere with either the bird, its eggs, chicks or the nest structure itself.

Breeding birds build their nests in a variety of places including our gardens and parks, in hedgerows and woodlands, along river banks and lough shores, on the sides of houses and inside farm buildings. Nests can turn up anywhere! Everyone can play a part to help breeding birds by taking simple steps to ensure nest sites aren’t disturbed or destroyed.

More information on breeding birds and how to report a wildlife crime has been put together by The Partnership for Action against Wildlife Crime in Northern Ireland (PAW NI).
