You don't always have to summit the highest peak to see the best sights; there are lots of exciting little hills with big views across Northern Ireland waiting for you to explore this Autumn!

In our latest blog 'Little Hills with Big Views' we have put together our top short walks (under 5 miles) with simple breath taking views.  

UFRC Open Weekend

Looking to take the next step in your walking journey? Want to get out walking with likeminded individuals?

Over 10 rambling clubs from across Northern Ireland are inviting walkers to join them for a specially tailored ‘Welcome Walk’ on Saturday 30th Sept & Sunday 1st October 2017 (additional dates have been added for Sunday 8th October).

Walks are set to take place in locations including Glenariff, the Mournes, Antrim Hills & the Comber Greenway.

To take part is free however there are limited spaces on each of the walks so booking in advance is advised. More information on these walks including how to reserve your space can be found on WalkNI.com.

The UFRC are currently supported by SportNI & The Big Lottery Fund NI through the Active Clubs Programme.

Last of the Festivals

Festival season may be coming to an end but there are two great festivals still to come.

Wee Binnian Walking Festival, Fri 22nd- Sun 24th Sept, Warrenpoint, Co. Down
Offering an action packed programme of guided mountain and lowland walks in the Mournes, Slieve Gullion and Cooley Mountains over varying distances and difficulties, this festival catering for all levels of hill walkers. The festival has been much acclaimed for its balance of fabulous landscapes, friendly people and nightly entertainment.

Glenarm Walking Festival, Sat 30th Sept- Sun 1st Oct, Glenarm, Co. Antrim
Glenarm Walk Leaders extend a very warm welcome to walkers of all levels of fitness and interests to their inaugural walking festival. Choose from walks through a mix of mountains, forests, coastline, historic villages and the Glenarm Estate, ancestral home to the Mc Donnell family, Earls of Antrim.

Improve your Skills in the Hills

MTUK Mountain Skills, 22nd-24th Sept, Mourne Mountains, Tollymore National Outdoor Centre
The main emphasis of the course will be building upon your existing skills and knowledge to allow you to advance your mountain walking skills in a mountain environment to a more independent level. 

First Steps GPS Skills, Sat 21st Oct, Mourne Mountains, Tollymore National Outdoor Centre
This First Step GPS Skills course has a number of aims, including: developing a level of understanding and independence, applying newly learned skills on gentle mountain terrain and providing an individually tailored learning experience with nationally qualitified coaches.

Experience a Slow Adventure

If you want to get away from it all, slow things down and reconnect with nature, Derry~Londonderry and Strabane is the place to be with lots of Slow Adventure experiences waiting for you to enjoy all year round. Escape to the stunningly beautiful rural setting where local food is combined with outdoor activities for a truly authentic and natural experience. 

Over ten new Slow Adventure experiences are now available to book all year round.  Many of the experiences include guided walking through the rolling hills of the Sperrins. Experience guided walking tours with local guide and ecologist Martin from Lanscape & Countryside Tours where you will also have the opportunity to discover local traditional and artisan food.  Alternatively, slow things down, breathe in the fresh air and be at one with nature on a guided mindfulness walk through lush green fields.

Other packages include interactive cooking demonstrations with local hand-picked ingredients, wild camping, horse riding in the wilderness, boom boarding and canoeing.
